Passengers and airports coped well with new baggage rules introduced yesterday, despite fears that changes would lead to confusion. The one-bag-only rule for hand luggage was lifted at 22 UK airports but remained in place at over 40 others.
To add to the confusion, at Gatwick Airport there was a two-bag rule for connecting passengers passing through the South Terminal but a one-bag regulation for everyone else. Plus some airlines - including easyJet, Ryanair and Flybe - are continuing to implement a one bag rule at every airport they operate from.
However, a spokesman for the Department for Transport (DfT), which is responsible for airport security, said there were no reports of any difficulties or extra queues.
