Snow grounded flights at a number of UK airports, causing flight cancellations and delays. British Airways said 114 flights had been cancelled at Heathrow and 32 at Gatwick Airport. Six inbound and six outbound easyJet flights were grounded this morning at Gatwick. Passengers at Bristol Airport have also experienced delays.
Caroline Alderson, Gatwick spokeswoman, said: ‘I believe easyJet have offered to put passengers on flights to the same destinations later in the day. The runway was closed this morning for snow clearance but is now back open.’
At Bristol Airport the runways were closed for an hour during the early morning to allow the snow to be cleared. This caused some delays, which will have a knock-on effect during the rest of the day. Aircraft also had to be de-iced.
Birmingham Airport has taken some flights that were diverted away from Heathrow.
