The Cambridge Hotel was originally built in 1865 as a house. It was occupied by George, 2nd Duke of Cambridge, (who was the grandson to George III and Commander in Chief of the British Army), with his morganatic wife, Louisa Fairbrother. The building has a grade II listing for its historical value.

There is a variety of eating establishments within walking distance of us, including the Air Balloon restaurant and the Ye Olde Six Bells pub/restaurant, which are both very good. The centre of Horley is about 6 to 7 minutes walk from us.
Brighton is just 30 minutes away by rail or road. There you can spend a pleasant day walking round the "Lanes" with their Antique shops, or just wander along the seafront.
Horley lies on the border of Surrey and Sussex and is the nearest town to Gatwick Airport. In spite of its proximity to the airport and the M23 motorway Horley manages to have a rather laid back air to it.
London - with excellent restaurants, quirky pubs, unparalleled museums, superb theatre, and a blitzing nightlife - is a cosmopolitan mix of Third and First Worlds. Within a 10 minute walk of Acorn Lodge is the local Horley train station which has regular trains to London (a mere 35 minutes away using the regular train service) and Brighton (only 30 minutes away).

From M23 junction 9 to London Gatwick Airport, take 2nd exit off roundabout to airport. At the next roundabout go straight on. At the following roundabout take the last exit towards A23. At the next roundabout turn right singposted Redhill/Reigate A23. At large interchange with shell garage in centre, follow signs to Redhill/Reigate A23. The Cambridge Hotel is on the left after a few hundred yards.
There are regular coaches arriving to and departing from Gatwick Airport, serving most major cities in the UK and also the major airports, including London Heathrow, Stansted and Luton.
